Skilled Regional Visa (Provisional)

The skilled regional sponsored visa provides an opportunity for skilled workers and their families to live, work and study in specified regional areas in Australia for four years. The skilled regional visa is a temporary visa.

The applicant must be nominated by an Australian State or Territory government agency or sponsored by an eligible relative living in a designated area. The applicant will also be required to reside for two years and be employed for at least one year in the State, Territory or designated area of Australia.

Eligibility:

  • Be under the age of 50
  • Obtain an IELTS test score of at least 6 in each component but
    to get points you need at least IELTS 7.0 in each component
  • Nominate an occupation that is on the relevant skilled occupation list
  • Complete a skills assessment for chosen occupation
  • Have been nominated by an Australian State or Territory Government agency
  • Meet the points test (if required)

This visa provides a pathway to permanent residence through the skilled-regional (residence) visa.


Skilled Nominated Visa (Permanent)

The skilled nominated visa provides an opportunity for skilled professionals to work in Australia under State or Territory Government agency sponsorship. The skilled nominated visa is a permanent visa. The State or Territory Government require applicants who are:

  • Trained for an occupation for which there is a skills shortage in that State or Territory
  • Have specialised skills relevant to a particular region of that State or Territory


Eligibility:

  • Be under the age of 50
  • Obtain an IELTS test score of at least 6 in each component but
    to get points you need at least IELTS 7.0 in each component
  • Nominate an occupation that is on the relevant skilled occupation list
  • Completed a skills assessment for chosen occupation
  • Have been nominated by an Australian State or Territory Government agency
  • Meet the points test

 

Skilled Independent Visa (Permanent)

The skilled independent visa provides an opportunity for skilled professionals to work in Australia without a sponsor. The skilled independent visa is a permanent visa.

Eligibility:

  • Be under the age of 50
  • Obtain an IELTS test score of at least 6 in each component but
    to get points you need at least IELTS 7.0 in each component
  • Nominate an occupation that is on the relevant skilled occupation list
  • Complete a skills assessment for chosen occupation
  • Meet the points test

The points test is a system by which Australian immigration determines which people will be a positive addition to the Australian workforce. The points are measured by many categories including:

  • Skilled Employment experience
  • Qualifications
  • Credentialed Community Language
  • Partner Skills

Entitlements for Australian Permanent residents

Once awarded this visa, the applicant becomes an Australian permanent resident. Permanent residents of Australia are able to live in Australia and work in any occupation of their choosing. They are free to study at universities or at vocational training schools. They are also able to receive Australian healthcare, access social security pending a waiting period. Permanent residents are not citizens, but they can apply for citizenship once a permanent resident. Permanent residents are also able to sponsor other people for visas or permanent resident.

The new permanent resident can travel in and out of the country for five years after the visa is finalised. If the visa holder wishes to travel in and out of the country beyond the period of five years, he/she must apply for a Resident Return Visa (RRV) or consider an application for Australian citizenship.
